This week at Harbourside: week ending February 15

A weekly summary of what’s happening in the Harbourside planning process.

Follow-up meetings with APC & PEAC
This week the team had follow-up meetings with two City advisory bodies to address comments they had previously received.

In meetings with both the Advisory Planning Commission (APC) as well as the Parks and Environment Committee (PEAC), Concert received support for their rezoning application. APC commended the team on the commercial component of their plan and supported the “splaying” of buildings to optimize views. PEAC encouraged Concert to continue striving for sustainability excellence and maintain efforts to manage parking at Harbourside for the benefit of park users.

With the support of the Integrated Transportation Committee (ITC), APC and PEAC, the team will meet again with the remaining two advisory bodies next week.

  1. I am an owner of an office on Harbourside Drive. I suggest you have an OPEN blog so people can view and share comments. I believe the traffic issue needs to be the main topic as you can sell units but you need to address the increase volume and you cannot expect people to "car pool" or wait 30 minutes to get into or out of their sub-division. And yes the erradication of views will be a tragedy, especially when you are proposing 7 to 9 storey building when the existing height of the existing building are 2-3... Very agressive approach!

  2. Hi Stefan,

We appreciate your taking the time to read our blog and relay feedback on our vision for Harbourside.

Traffic is indeed one of the key considerations our team has been working on along with a specialized traffic consultancy firm. In our first post on January 8, 2013 we wrote about our six-part strategy to mitigate parking concerns which included adding more surface and underground parking as well as enhanced transit service. We also discussed our proposed traffic management strategies which include changes to intersections as well as improving alternate route access in another post on January 16, 2013.

Throughout the design process the team also devised several strategies to preserve and frame views with all users of Harbourside in mind including new and existing business owners, trail users, existing area residents as well as future residents. We discussed these strategies in more detail within our February 13, 2013 post focused on view preservation.
